With Susan Eddy representing Artforlife in Georgia, Marty Kenney ( WRC Media) in New York and the backing from Hugh McColl Jr, it felt like things were definitely on a positive footing.

It's amazing what you can find when you are not looking!

Christeve finds a child

For the first time in years I was able to work every day on a project without interruption.

The key component in all of this was the internet. With the computer in my studio, I was able to keep in constant contact with Susan Eddy, downloading images to her on a daily basis. Another key player was the currier, Federal Express.

In short, I was in a studio in a small market town in Wales, working on what had become a trans-Atlantic project. With the internet and currier in place, it worked. Welcome to the late 20th century!

A very happy moment

Working with Marty’s guidance we had come up with the idea for a monthly column which would appear on the WRC Media website. It was our hope that WRC Media’s publisher would eventually publish the series of books we planned to produce, and that WRC Media would be key in the distribution of related products, such as stickers and posters.

By the Spring of 2002, I was ready for a very important meeting with Marty Kenny at the WRC Media offices in New York. I will always have vivid memories of that day.

My son Jarrod and I were staying at my friend Ferne’s flat at E. 68th and Central Park. Given that my appointment with Marty was for 9 a.m. I chose to walk from 68th street to the WRC Media on 7th Avenue.

It was one of those early May mornings in New York, when you know it is going to be very hot and humid, but at 9 a.m. there is still a hint of freshness in the air. As I walked, I remember thinking that I had done everything I could, and now the decision as to whether or not WRC Media would take us on was completely out of my hands.

When I arrived at Marty’s office, we talked about 9/11 and many other issues. I have to admit I thought that he was playing for time to let me down gently. After about ten minutes of conversation, he said to me...’WRC Media would like to welcome the Christeve project on board!’

Surreal!

More tomorrow along with an image of our first monthly column

Yesterday was lovely. I took the train to Waterloo....walked across the walking bridge...down to Somerset House and the Courtauld Gallery where I met good friend Jane Carter. We then viewed some beautiful Turner water colours, and then had a light lunch next to the ice skating rink. A perfect day.
