Yesterday I enjoyed a lovely afternoon/evening with my friend Tony. We went to The Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond, a highly respected off-West-End venue.
Offering its first performance in 1971, the original venue for the theatre was an upstairs room in The Orange Tree Pub.
The new theatre in the round, which is right across the road from the pub opened in 1991, with seating for 172.
The play, Autumn & Winter by Swedish playwright Lars Noren was excellent. In the play we are present at a regular family dinner with mother, father and their two daughters. However, the evening develops into one of accusations, guilt and denial. The actors, Osmund Bullock, Kristin Hutchinson, Auriol Smith and Lisa Stevenson were superb in their respective rolls.
Afterwards, we meandered through Richmond to what is one of my favourite pizza places.
Tony always carries some interesting reading.
An excellent shop in Richmond.....
There was a real Saturday afternoon feeling about the day, and we actually had a little rain....which we desperately need.
Then onto some good food in a the wonderfully relaxed atmosphere of Zizzi.
